How to Add a Signature in Gmail (2026): Desktop, Android and iPhone

Short answer: On a computer, open Gmail, click Settings (the gear icon) and then See all settings. On the General tab, scroll to Signature, click Create new, name it and type your signature. How to add a signature in Gmail on a computer

1. Open Gmail in a browser.
2. At the top right, click Settings, then See all settings.
3. Stay on the General tab and scroll down to the Signature section.
4. Click Create new, give the signature a name (only you see it).
5. Type your signature in the box. Use the toolbar to change the font, add links or insert an image.
6. Under the signature defaults, choose it for new emails and for replies and forwards, so Gmail adds it automatically.
7. Scroll to the bottom of the page and click Save Changes.

A signature can be up to 10,000 characters, and an image counts toward that limit. If you get an error, make the image smaller. To change or remove a signature later, go back to the same section, click the signature, edit it or click Delete, and save again.

How to add a signature in the Gmail app

The app uses a separate mobile signature that only applies to emails sent from the app. If you don't set one, the app uses the signature from your computer.

On an Android phone or tablet:

1. Open the Gmail app and tap Menu at the top left.
2. Scroll down and tap Settings, then choose the account.
3. Tap Mobile signature, type your signature and tap OK.

On an iPhone or iPad:

1. Open the Gmail app, tap Menu, then Settings.

How to add an image or logo to your Gmail signature

In the signature editor on a computer, click the insert image icon. Gmail offers three ways to add it: My Drive, Upload from your device, or Web Address (URL) for an image that is public online. Google recommends an image about 70 to 100 pixels high and 300 to 400 pixels wide; the maximum is 100 pixels high by 1,000 pixels wide. After inserting it, click the image to pick Small, Medium, Large or Original size.

If the image shows as a broken icon, the usual causes are a Drive image that isn't shared publicly (set it to anyone with the link, Viewer) or an image that is too big. Deleting and re-uploading it, or trying one of the other two upload methods, often fixes it.

Use more than one signature

You can save several signatures, for example a full one for new emails and a short one for replies, and pick the defaults for each. While writing an email, click Insert signature at the bottom of the compose window to switch. If you send from more than one address with Send mail as, the drop-down above the signature box lets you set a different signature for each address.

What to put in a Gmail signature

Keep it short: most people need three to five lines. A good signature usually has your name, your role and company, one or two ways to reach you, and maybe one link. Skip quotes, legal text you don't need and large images, which make every reply heavier. Some examples:
