How to Restore Your Canary Mail Purchase on Mac and iPhone

If you have purchased a Growth or Pro+ plan and your paid features are not showing on your Mac or iPhone, this page explains how to restore your purchase, what to check first, and what to do if the issue continues.

What Restore Purchase Does

Restore Purchase tells Canary Mail to check your account for an existing paid plan and restore your subscription on the current device. It does not charge you again. It simply helps reactivate your subscription if your plan is missing.

This is most commonly needed when:

  • You install Canary Mail on a new iPhone or Mac
  • Your plan stops showing after an app update or reinstall
  • You purchased on one device and need to activate on another

This can help if you need to restore your subscription on iPhone or Mac or fix Canary Mail Pro not showing after reinstalling the app.

Before You Start

Canary Mail ties your purchase to your email account. For restore to work, you must:

  • Sign in with the same email account that was used to purchase Canary Mail

If this does not match, restore will not find your plan. Check this before running the steps below.

How to Restore Your Purchase on iPhone

  1. Open Canary Mail on your iPhone
  2. Tap the menu icon to open Settings
  3. Tap ‘Upgrade Now’
  4. Tap Restore Purchase

Canary Mail will check your account and reactivate your plan if a valid purchase is found. This usually takes a few seconds.

How to Restore Your Purchase on Mac

  1. Open Canary Mail on your Mac
  2. Go to the menu bar and click Canary Mail
  3. Click Upgrade Now
  4. Click Restore Purchase

Your plan should reactivate automatically once the restore completes.

Using One Plan Across Mac and iPhone

Most Canary Mail plans purchased via the App Store - iOS or Mac App Store - can be restored on any Apple device where you sign in with the same email account used to purchase Canary Mail.

To activate your plan on a second Apple device -

  1. Make sure you are signed in with the same email account used for the original purchase
  2. Open Upgrade Now in settings
  3. Tap or click Restore Purchase

Your plan will be recognized and activated on that device.

What to Do if Your Canary Mail Subscription Is Not Showing

If your paid plan is still not showing after running Restore Purchase, work through these steps in order.

  • Step 1 - Confirm you are on the correct account
    Open Settings on the device where the plan is not showing and confirm the account matches the one used for the original purchase.
  • Step 2 - Run Restore Purchase on the device where you originally bought
    Go to the device where you first made the purchase and run Restore Purchase there first. Then check the second device.
  • Step 3 - Check your plan type
    Some older single-platform licenses may only apply to the platform where they were originally purchased. If you are on an older plan, your purchase may be limited to that platform. Check your original purchase receipt to confirm which plan you purchased.
  • Step 4 - Contact support
    If the plan is still not showing after the steps above, contact the Canary Mail support team at hello@canarymail.io with the following:
    • A screenshot of the Upgrade Now screen on the device where the plan is active
    • A screenshot of the Upgrade Now screen on the device where it is not showing
    • Your purchase receipt if available

Does Restore Purchase Also Sync My Accounts and Settings?

No. Restore Purchase only reactivates your paid plan. It does not sync your email accounts or app settings between devices.

How do I restore my purchase on iPhone after buying on Mac? 

Open Canary Mail on your iPhone, go to Settings, tap Upgrade Now, then tap Restore Purchase. Make sure you are signed in with the same account used when you purchased on Mac.

Does restore work automatically?

You need to tap or click Restore Purchase manually. It does not run automatically. Once triggered, it checks your account and reactivates your plan if a valid purchase is found. Using the same account on every device is what makes restore work correctly.
