Fixing Canary Mail Crashes: A Step-by-Step Guide

If you’re experiencing crashes with the Canary app on your device, follow these steps to troubleshoot the issue:

Please be aware that deleting the CanaryDB folder will remove all user data, essentially performing a manual purge of the app. This process will also delete any saved templates and signatures. To prevent data loss, we recommend that you back up your data via iCloud before proceeding with these steps.

macOS:

If Canary is crashing on launch on your Mac, you may need to clear the Canary dB folder. Follow the instructions below based on whether you installed Canary from the App Store or via Setapp:

For App Store Users:

  1. Open Finder.
  2. Go to the “Go” menu in the top bar.
  3. Select “Go to Folder…”
  4. Enter the following path: ~/Library/Containers/io.canarymail.mac/Data/Library/Application Support/CanaryDB
  5. Delete the contents of the CanaryDB folder.

For Setapp Users:

  1. Open Finder.
  2. Go to the “Go” menu in the top bar.
  3. Select “Go to Folder…”
  4. Enter the following path:
    ~/Library/Containers/com.mailrtech.canarymail-setapp/Data/Library/Application Support/CanaryDB
  5. Delete the contents of the CanaryDB folder.

Windows:

If you’re using Canary on Windows and experiencing crashes, try clearing the cache by following these steps:

  1. Open File Explorer.
  2. Navigate to C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Canary (replace <username> with your actual username).
  3. Delete the contents of the Canary folder.
